Addressing Unpaid Medical Claims
Updated On: Apr 17, 2019
From the Office of the Human Resources Director regarding unpaid Medical Claims ********************************************************** Good Afternoon, I am getting in touch today with an important update in the city's efforts to address our employees' unpaid medical claims. As you know, we've been working diligently to settle claims that should have been paid by Riverstone, the city's previous insurance carrier. Our top priority at this stage is to assist employees who have been placed in collection proceedings because of these unpaid claims. As such, the city is sending the attached letter to all providers that may have provided care to those covered under Riverstone's plans. The letter provides an update on the legal proceedings, and also reminds providers that there is an injunction against pursuing employees and the injunction applies to third parties hired to collect on behalf of creditors. Our hope is that this letter will remind providers that the court has barred any collection proceedings at this time. The next court hearing in this case is on April 29 and after that hearing we hope to have more information about timing for resolution. We encourage you to provide this letter to your health care providers and/or collection agencies. We hope to bring another update to you soon related to the reimbursement of claims you may have had to pay in the absence of Riverstone's disbursements. Norma
